Just a quickie: found this fantastic-looking recipe for a Brazilian chicken pot pie made with a coconut flour and flax seed based crust.
The crust recipe is what I’ve really been lusting after. My favorite low-carb crust recipe thus far has been basically just coconut flour and butter and eggs; but using so much coconut flour means you’re getting a lot of net carbs per spoonful, and that’s a drag when you want to eat more than one slice of pie.
For the crust:
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 Tbl coconut oil or butter
1 egg
1 cup flax meal
3 Tbl coconut flour
1/4 tsp kosher salt
I haven’t tried cooking it yet (I’m just now hanging out in a house full of packed up boxes of stuff — moving tomorrow!) but I definitely will soon.
That reminds me: I’d better post my pumpkin pie recipe, now that I’ve gone and mentioned it in the latest BioJacked podcast.

Just wanted to send a shout-out to my new favorite recipe blog, Caveman Keto.

Now this is a website that’s going places, particularly in Google, and particularly for the keyword “keto”. How could it not, with recipes like:
Kitchen Sink Keto Burger — burger ALL the keto!
Keto Taco Salad — looks like cat food mixed with rabbit food, probably tastes better. Or the same, if you feed your cat good pork.
And who could successfully avert their eyes from beholding the wonder of BACONE, The Ultimate Keto Breakfast! — shown below, possibly actual size?
My personal favorite thus far has been Eggs in a Cloud, although I made them with sheep’s milk manchego rather than parmesan. Then I swiped his photos!
While the food photography may not be top notch, the ideas are great, and ideas are what most of us ultra-low-carb dieters really need. So keep it coming, caveman!

BACONE! the ketonator!!!

From the guys who make Quest Protein Bars comes this luscious looking high protein cinnamon roll — which just happens to also be low in net carbs (8g per roll) and gluten-free too!
Protein Cinnamon Roll
You will need:
- 5 Egg Whites
- 10g Coconut flour
- 30g Vanilla whey
- 10g Apple Fiber
- 1 Packet Truvia
- 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon
- Spray a rectangle pan with non stick spray (coconut oil works great here)
- Combine the above ingredients and then lay it out on the pan in one long rectangle.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
Frosting:
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 cup Fage Non-fat Greek Yogurt
- 2 Packets Truvia
- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- Whip the egg whites together, then fold into the Fage. Combine and whip the remaining ingredients.
- Once the roll is done, roll it up and cover in the frosting (you’ll probably have extra).
- Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top.
316cals, 45g protein 16 carb (8 from fiber) and 8g fat.
It’s great to have ingredient quantities in grams when it comes to fluffy stuff like protein powder, coconut flour, and fiber. If you don’t have a scale, may I suggest the following handy dandy little digital scale? I have one in my kitchen and I love how thin and compact it is. Oh, and it works pretty well too.
